81+ Kit: Story and Photographs
In late 2021 and early 2022 I rebuilt two astonishingly similar pairs of speakers from island nations half a planet apart in the 1960s.
The first pair were these EMI 711A speakers made in the UK, and the second were the Pioneer CS-A31 from Japan. I highly recommend looking at what I show here for both if you are doing anything similar, since neither series of photos is technically complete - and I also have not added captions (yet).
These were exercises in turning very nicely-made cabinets with fairly inadequate speakers into representatives of the excellent HUMAN 81 family - the short version of the story is that I gutted them, made new inner front baffles for them, and installed those with my new parts.
